  6. Yea, I looked at them and was actually surprised the most by Akinisha.

I mean fuck , you hear” Kenisha” all the time and they all have “A”s at the end . I figured they started putting “A”s up front as well.
Its sad when people feel they have to give their kids unique names to help them stand out no matter how ridiculous they sound.
But then again its not a black white thing with me.
I was never crazy about the whole “Billy Bob” thing either.
Maybe you could do a post on stupid redneck traiiler park names too

    micky2

    April 24, 2008 at 9:46 am

  7. “Billy Bob” is usually just a nickname for William Robert.

My nanny was named Naomi, but she insisted it was pronounced Naoma.
In Jr.High I had a friend named Jaree (’jar ee’) and another named Johnna.
    They were all white.

  11. As a note for idiotic people a lot of the names that you hear are not just made up and “stupid” they are based in African lineage. I am so sorry if naming your child anything other than those “acceptable” names rooted in Caucasian history is perplexing for you all.

Why don’t you take a look at some of the names you are calling your little “Trucker” are we naming a child or a profession. How about “Apple” or were you confused and thought they were asking for your lunch order.

Also some of THE stupidest names came when other than black people decided to be creative. Such as two people who attended a school I worked with, Brick Wall and Candy Lane. No freaking kidding.

You should all get a grip and stop ragging on people giving their children whatever names they feel. Isn’t this whole thing rooted in racism?

  22. Please! Typical white people “it was a joke.” Noose hangings are a joke, calling people nappy headed ho’s is a joke, standing on stage talking about lynching blacks is a joke, talk about lynching Tiger Woods in a dark alley was just a joke. Every freaking thing is a joke.

If you intended it to be a rag on everyone then why the racial undertones with sista or symptom? Also, the fact is that a recent study from the National Bureau of Economic Research concluded that a person with a distinctly African-American sounding name was almost 50% less likely to receive a job interview than a person with a more “traditional” name. I guess traditional = white. But that is funny too right?

This is the problem. Sure it sounds funny or whatever and you may feel that I am crying injustice due to whatever the hell you want to think. But the facts are this is a real problem when dealing with people who “think this is a joke.” Will it be a joke when LaRhonda doesn’t get a job and is sitting on welfare? I doubt it.

micky2, there are plenty of things that make me unique besides being black. I don’t need to CRY anything, you are doing it for me.

Also, you aren’t allowed to make racist jokes about heritage anymore. Read it and weep:

“Guatemalan children are, to most North American eyes (including ours, for sure!), deemed to be beautiful. The end result of 500 years of racial admixture of European (primarily Spanish) and Native American (i.e. indigenous Mayan) elements, Guatemalan children “look right” and “fit in” to most North American families. Perhaps even more importantly, for some families they do not present the challenge of how to deal with children who look “different” in a way that is culturally perceived to be undesirable. ”

“micky2, there are plenty of things that make me unique besides being black. I don’t need to CRY anything, you are doing it for me.”

So far it has most definatley been you doing all the crying. Without a doubt

I’ve been to your website and its full of the typical victim mentallity I see in most liberal websites crying about all the injustices supposedly connected to percieved racism.
Your arguements are tired and old. As much as you denounce racism on your site you use it as the crux of every single matter in all your posts
So unless you can get off your high horse and just relax a little I doubt you will get out of this website what it was intended for.

If you would a little insight as to what I am talking about take a look at my post written over Kevins and my disagreement over the ” holocaust didnt happen statement” and his use of it and why I feel free to use it in humor right now.

  38. The only problem with the concept of child naming and success is why does white America get to dictate what names are acceptable? Most white people would not find it acceptable if Chinese people were in charge of your child’s name. The most popular Chinese name #1 Wen and #2 Zhi.

So it is only right that each culture decide what name is suitable for themselves. And if the dominant culture can’t see fit to NOT discriminate based on this then it is they who have the problem.

Enough said. I can see you are a light hearted funny bunch of people. I will not sour the day.

  39. Black: I’m rather enjoying our conversation. When all the fat drips away, RR is about learning. Really truly.

    Seriously, tho..
If I were only judging on names (which is a stupid way of hiring someone) I’d choose a Wen or a Zhi before a Kyreeshquanda. I’d also choose Jerome or Tyrell over such.

Further, what you’re thinking of as “white names” are more likely biblical names.

The question still stands: Did you guess all the names/symptoms correctly?

The only people who call people showing the disparity of this country “victim mentality” are those idiots who actually believe that things are equal and just. You my friend is the reason why people need to speak out. I don’t cry in INFORM. I am hoping you understand the difference.

PERCEIVED racism is the problem. Just because you don’t SEE it means that it is perceived for those of us dealing with idiots like yourself on a daily basis. Get over yourself! Just because you like the blatant hypocrisy and racial disparity doesn’t mean we all have to.

  44. Black sentinel.
“The most popular Chinese name #1 Wen and #2 Zhi.”

Yea right, maybe in China. I live in hawaii and although a portion of all the races here give their kids names relating to the culture the majority of them have english names in an english speaking country.
America does dictate these things by any conscience on any level. These names conflict with standard societal acceptances.
Would you name your son Harry Snoddgrass ? I have a friend who is Thai, his name used to be “Sopon Sowatanangoon ” For obvious reasons having nothing to do with racism he changed it to ” Sopon Sowata ”

I dont speak for this website sir. I speak for myself.
like I said. Your arguements are tired and old. And upon my visit to your website I noticed a very democratic/liberal and anti white overtones.
So let me ask you something. In the last 50 years what has the democratic party done for the black man ? Especially in the last 30 or years it appears to be nothing at all. And yet black America still keeps voting for this imbisilic oarty that has kept them down.
Is it by choice ? Or is it by the constant perception that government bailouts and entitlements is the only way for the black man to succeed ?
Injustice will always be prevalent in any society and since we havnt figured out how to legislate morality or ethics yet ( not that the libs havnt tried) I suggest you guys drop the “pay me back ” bullshit and get on with your lives already.
There are a ton of minorities/races that have sufferd injustices similar to that of the black man that go further back in history than Americas conception.
And you dont hear them bitching about it any more.
Yes, I believe there are more injust practices in our society that need extinguishing.

Where do those names originate from
Mainly from the Old Testament. Many common English names have their origin in the Hebrew language, others are based on Latin. The Roman empire was comprised of many races, including much of the African continent.

If you didn’t intend to make the case that these were somehow black ethnic names then you would not have pushed the black angle.
    &
That makes it OK to pick out supposedly black ethnic sounding names for your amusement quiz?
As I stated in the first sentence of the post, I took those names from a babyname webpage touting “AFRICAN – AMERICAN BABY GIRL NAMES ”

you all were the ones that said…
    Show me.

You claim that your post was not intended to be about race
When did I claim that? In fact, I claimed the opposite:

Further, you don’t need to convince me this post seems racist. Look at the tags at the top. I categorized it as such when I wrote it.

Note the picture at the bottom of the post admits that it’s wrong. Er…wong.

The quiz was race oriented and now you want to back pedal.
In what way am I back pedaling? Further, in what way did I claim the quiz wasn’t race oriented? I stand behind my post. I am, however, open minded. A compelling argument can possibly convince me to take it down. I’ve seen no such argument.

Further, I’m impressed that you linked to the post in question, thereby trusting your readership to think for themselves. Oh, wait…you didn’t.

Our ancestors had to deal with this double standard from day one when they were whipped as the movie Roots showed. Your name isn’t Kunta Kinte, it’s Toby.

  103. Black Sentinel: How can you POSSIBLY equate a blog entry that merely makes fun of some ethnic names with something as horrendous as a lynching? Damn, that’s hyperbole if I’ve ever heard it. A lynching ends a life. It’s the ultimate, evil result of runaway mob mentality. Sure, this post has the potential to offend, but just about anything one says or prints will offend someone. How can you possibly expect to retain any credibility on the subject after you make such an obtuse argument?

Just about anywhere you go, you find that parents give their children names that are derived from the prevailing culture. It’s no exception in the United States. It’s no exception among Black Americans, either.

I’m of Jewish, Cherokee and Turkish ancestry. My ethnic oxen have been gored on this site several times over. Like it or not, there is a history of ethnic humor in this country, from Jackie Mason to Richard Pryor to Lenny Bruce and Chris Rock. Sure, Jolson was an embarrassment and Kauffman went too far in his attempts to shock and outrage, but is it too much to try to come together by laughing at our differences?

  104. Did anyone know that, if a child is born in Germany, the parents must give it an “acceptable” German name? The “acceptability” is determined by the birth registry offices in each of the 16 states.

This is not the right idea, but I understand why Germany has such a law. First, it helps foster a “collective identity” that, in theory, would help to curb racism and anti-semitism. Secondly, under Hitler, Jews were prohibited from taking traditional German names. If your name has a “third reich-y” connotation, your name may be rejected. For instance, if your family name is Hitler, you would likely not be allowed to name your kid Adolph. If you emigrate to Germany, you are encouraged to change your name or, if applicable, adopt its German form.

In America, we have the freedom to give our progeny unfortunate names all day long. That’s just one of the many things that make our country great!

  105. Sorry folks, I had to come back when I saw that there were over 100 comments. Actually you are right about one thing I had to go and cook dinner for my family since I am a MOTHER of two. NOT this big angry black fella. It is funny that I get that a lot.

Anywho, Soylent Ape, I didn’t equate people ragging on names to lynching. I was talking about ragging/joking at the time. And it wasn’t even about actual lynching. It was about someone “SAYING” that someone should be lynched. Ok enough of that.

Again, I HAVE to moderate my blog for comments not that it is any of you folks business. But I do because I seem to attract a TON of the true racists and the things they say I DO not allow my son to read and he does read my blog from time to time. Also I don’t like to give a platform to the blatantly racist speak.

And for the record you shouldn’t make an assumption that I am or affiliate with the Democratic party. I don’t believe that the Democrats/Republicans or anyone in office for that matter has done anything significant for blacks lately. Hey you asked. Also, I don’t think that ONLY blacks are discriminated against or the only one with problems. That is not my platform. I speak about things that affect me and my community which just so happens to be black.

As far as the injustices that others suffer, trust me there are folks out there to defend those folks and shed light on the issues. Also, don’t think that just because I said that white people names are considered the norm means that I think that ALL of you are white because I don’t. Trust me there are plenty of blacks out there who will be right on your side. Also, you don’t have to be white to identify with the dominant culture.

Last thought, I didn’t come here to say you were ALL racists. I came to list my displeasure at having to hear this talk. Which I hear all to often about people in the black community. Whether or not you all intended for it to be racist is not the point, that could be the way others view it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I concur.

Thanks for giving me my soapbox. Hopefully I can take away that you are not necessarily bad people. As that is still up for debate.

  108. “Please! Typical white people “it was a joke.” Noose hangings are a joke, calling people nappy headed ho’s is a joke, standing on stage talking about lynching blacks is a joke, talk about lynching Tiger Woods in a dark alley was just a joke. Every freaking thing is a joke.”

I apologise if I misunderstood the phrase “noose hanging” as “hanging by noose”. “Hanging” can be a verb or noun. I stand corrected.

Believe me, I cringed when I heard that commentator make that comment about Woods. Still, Tiger says he considered her a friend and believed she never meant to be racist. As much of a Seinfeld fan as I am, there’s no way I can defend Michael Richards’ threat of hanging the black heckler from a tree or stabbing him. That was disgusting.

I spent a part of my childhood in KlanLand (i.e: Northern Georgia before it all became a big suburb of Atlanta). A neighboring county used to boast that there were no black residents. Being a kinky-headed Jew-kid, I learned very quickly that a noose, for expample, was more than just a racist dig. It was a threat. When someone had something to say about my nose or my complexion, it was lighthearted, by comparison.

While I am certain this post has offended some people, I can’t imagine how it could be construed as a threat.

  112. As a black man, and comedian I come across many jokes that are racially, and sterotypically based. While i find all types of humor and circumstances funny, especially when its dirty, i feel that in this particular case, knowing nothing of the content of the site, and the other particular articles or things on went a bit too far and may have been in bad taste. We all acknowledged that black urban female names have gotten a bit ridiculous. This is a fiar and easily expandable joke. The issue comes through the indirect comparison between diseases, and African American female babies. Its the underling tones, and indirect nature of the comparison between the two. I have found through my discussions with white people that there is an underlying stigma about black women that permeates in a low and indirect manner. The feeling or idea that black women are ” hookers, dirty, nasty, disease ridden, or trashy. While not directly addressing this within the context of the survey, it just seems to be the undertone that is associated. My gut feeling and opinion is that while some may find this funny, there may be alot of people who do not and may actually be hurt and deeply offended by the nature and undertone.

As a comedian this frequently happens in jokes. Ex ) Two weeks ago, my girlfriend whom is also African American took issue with a holocaust joke that was delivered by a Jewish comic regarding utilizing Jewish bones as soap. She felt that this joke was out of line and the comic should be notified that he had crossed the line. I had a similar issue with a joke that I wrote regarding larger white women.

Here is the joke verbatim. ” I love big white women, why, cause big white women have really really big vaginias”. I love that cause i like to move around, i like wide open spaces, i want to get lost in that motherfucker like a cave, with a flashlight like ” jim!..are you in here” ?

Now this joke is funny to me :. I know its based on the fact. But do you think this could be taken the wrong way, cause hurt feelings, and as other undertones associated with it? Yes..

Regardless of if I agree with the humor involved, I also want to make it clear that I do not and would not characterize someone as a racist simply based on this survey. I would say it was something that could have had a bit more thought and understanding behind, and was a bit thoughtless,

That’s my opinion. But opinions are like feet. Everyone has one. Right?

    TEKG - Garlyn Norris

    April 25, 2008 at 12:40 am

  113. Tekg.
I find your rational on the disease association a bit ridiculous.
I hardly see that as the underlying tone here.
If we look at how people use to use buzzwords and certain sounds and phrases and methods of auditory attraction these days you will notice that we think its attractive or sounds “cool” to say things such as ” latte” or for some reason its elegant, glamorous or panache` to have a name that ends with the “Ahh” or “A” sound.
This I believe is why these names have gotten as ridiculous as some of them sound to the point that they actually do sound like diseases and symptoms.
Which I believe is the joke behind the absurdity and the absurdity behind the joke.

Most white jokes always associate whites with being of no rhythm, stupid, dorky and un hip in general. Quite frankly that comedic method is boring as hell to me and been done a million times but it never made me feel less than anymore than a black woman should feel less than because of this post

  114. Damn well said, Soy!

Freddy: You should have been here when we got called homophobic! That was fun. It was before we’d learned to lower our defenses and accept criticism. Still, the accuser became one of our biggest supporters. Some people get the joke right away, others need some hand holding.

TheBlack: No need to apologize for coming back — you’re welcome here. 100 comments isn’t unusual at RR. I’m sorry for assuming you were a man. People often assume the same of me. I suppose it’s our to-the-point style that confuses folks.

    Jenice: Hooray for getting it!

Garlyn: “The issue comes through the indirect comparison between diseases, and African American female babies”

I hadn’t thought of it that way. While I’m always scribbling between the lines, I didn’t intend to call black women a blight. I think, however, that a person who sees that meaning in this post may be looking a bit too closely.

Your white vagina joke is hilarious. There’s something between the lines there, as well. Like, the reason a black man would need a roomier vagina. Is it true what they say?

    Micky: Haole!

Everyone: This post originated from a commercial for a medicine Soy and I heard yesterday morning. I forget what the pill was, but the generic name for it sounded like a “ghetto” woman’s name. (Forgive my use of the term ghetto if it’s inappropriate…can you suggest another word for the black equivalent of white trash?) The original idea for the post was “medicines that sound like black women’s names”, but that lacked the fun of alliteration.
I wonder if any doctors have been offended because we’re saying they name symptoms to sound like women’s names?

I’m proud of us all for listening to eachother and coming closer to understanding. Awe.
Now excuse me while I barf rainbows.

@ TEKG: Welcome to RR! I respect anyone who can make a living at stand-up comedy because I sure as hell couldn’t! I hope I can catch your act, sometime. The Greeks invented modern medicine. Therefore, a lot of medical terminology (including symptoms) end in -a or -ia. That alliteration facilitated the juxtaposition against the more “creative” black women’s names, NOT the subconscious desire to compare black women to disease, I assure you.

  119. Yo. And I have to say a word for my boy TEKG. As you may have figured out, that’s my new guy. He’s a pretty open-minded person. I just think in a lot of ways this kind of humor is offensive to him because I’m not black enough. Hahaha. Just kidding…Seriously though, as he pointed out about the connection to illness and black women, I also had not thought of that. And maybe it is too close of an examination but he has a point. Time and time again I have heard this stereotype of black women being nasty. And I think because I don’t really fit the so called “norm,” I have not been affected. BUT I have been affected in that men assume that I will always be a freak in the sheets. Ok. Maybe that’s true. But hey, that’s still a stereotype.

Anyway, being that people will stumble upon this blog, it may be something to consider in future posts that strangers who don’t normally read here, won’t get it. That means you will be called a racist, a bigot, ageist, sexist…whatever. Although I would never want anything censored here. I mean, even I have gone to task on a few posts here in the past but I always like to see what different ideas people here have on them. That’s the whole point.

  120. Mickey2 – I respectfully disagree with your opinion of my opinion and would seek to use an example to illustrate my position further:

Look at the topic, the premise, and also the photograph listed to the side. The topic is African American female baby names, compared to medical symptoms, with a photograph of a trashy looking black woman whom obviously looks of ill repute. Put the three together subconsciously, and you have an underlying tone of negativity above and beyond the joke . What would go thru a person whom may be offended mind may be something like “ Of all the pictures in the world of black women, why use one which portrays black women in a less than positive tone, but more overtly a negative slutty sexual tone. Is that what the poster thinks of when they think of African American women or babies”. The photo is then used as the visual indicator to compare African American female baby names to symptoms (of diseases.. you don’t have a symptom unless you have a disease..Period). That’s where the issue comes where the joke may have been in bad taste. My litmus test for any joke is if you would feel comfortable, regardless of what race or creed to take this survey to a group of that culture in person, and be able to stand in from of them and state that, with that picture visually represented. if you would feel uncomfortable doing that because you might be labeled as something your not.

Regardless of my opinion you think its funny, then you think its funny and I thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts on my thoughts. As far as comedy and jokes go..Some people think Dane Cook is funny, and as a comic I can’t stomach it. I just don’t agree. I will also agree with your premise on white people stereotypical jokes about them not dancing, and being nerdy just as unappealing as black people doing jokes about having bad credit and having bad kids. For the most part, the white people I know can dance way better than me and have shitty credit.
To everyone else whom commended on my blog, in support of, rebuttable to , or thanks for my input I would like to thank you. This is what makes America strong, when regardless of our opinions on things, we can have an honest and open discussion about them.

Why on earth would anyone in an english speaking community give their daughter a name that sounds like or makes you think of a disease ?. Really?

Its elitest and its selfish to want your kid to have a name that represents your lineage no matter how hard it i to pronounce or ridiculous it sounds.
Just like Black sentinel mentioned when she critisized those who name their kids ” Apple” etc…

I dint think the Black chick in the pic looked trashy. Maybe shes a stripper working her way through college and thats what she had to wear to work?
Shes a little flat , but in my hey days I’d a fucked her brains out.
Either that or its just fucking halloween.
As a matter of fact the girl in the photo represents the generation that initially started getting stuck with these stupid names.

Your own perceptions are what have lead you to believe this is distasteful.
Obviously you’ve never really seen trashy women.
You assume the permise to be that RR is comparing the women to be relative to disease when nothing could be further from the truth.
Its the names that sound like diseases that is the crux of the matter .

But he does have a track record of positions that are pretty fuckin scary.

As far as homeboys in outer space goes it didnt offend me because I believe that each etnicity has come from its own planet.

  140. The WP dashboard keeps alerting me to new activity over at TheBlack’s blog.
I’d intended to leave them be, but some new fool came over to play. My response was long and link-heavy, so it may never see daylight there. I’ll pop it here, for lulz.

    ————
I intended to leave ya’ll to it, but my wordpress dashboard keeps alerting me to new messages on this thread. I couldn’t pass this one up:

I expected more decency from a Caucasian.
    &
    – quotation of Caucasian female identifying herself as “The Bagel of Everything.”

Again, with the assuming I’m Caucasian!

The picture of Black woman provocatively dressed in
inappropriate attire and masquerading as some kind of medical
professional is extremely racist, inexcusable, and in poor taste – very poor taste.

I agree with the poor taste part. That’s kind of what I do. However, the racist part is questionable. Sexist, perhaps. The sultry nurse is a popular character in pornography. It was difficult to find one featuring a black lady. Try it yourself…google.image for “sexy nurse”.
To me, the rarity of black nurse porn screams racism. Do pornographers not view black women to be capable of such an important role in the health care industry?

    IT’S A CONSPIRACY, I TELL YOU! A CONSPIRACY!

So, let me ask you this. If we continue to satirize other aspects of the American and global culture, including our own pigeon-holes, but never again make mention of African-Americans, would that be better?
Is it ok if we continue to trash Canada and China, crazy white women, Scientologists, anorexics, women who lust after gay men, and the darkest evil the world has ever known, so long as none of those people happen to be black?

I’m difficult to offend, but that idea is offensive to me. The African race is just as full of hypocrites and heroes as any other ethnicity.

Or should we never ever even think of calling out anyone or any group on hypocrisy? Should we accept everything everyone does, without question?

A bit of rude humor goes a long way toward winning people over. How many minds have you changed with all your outrage? Nearly ever comment I’ve seen on your blog are from those who agree with everything you say. Likely, they felt the same way before they ever ventured to your url. What good does it do to preach to the choir?
I’ve changed quite a few minds with my intentionally over-the-top blog. Sometimes I have to be the bad cop to do it. Flies, honey, vinegar.

I think we’re on the same side. Our methods differ. My method has proven itself successful.

  142. The truth of the matter is that some people thrive on being victimized. If you look at a country like the United Kingdom, there is far less economic and social disparity between Blacks and Anglos. Keep in mind that England was once a cavalier colonial power in Africa. England also jump-started the slave trade. In England, as opposed to America, there are more whites in corrections than blacks. Why the difference? I am hard pressed to think of a leader in Britain who has demogogued race for their own personal gain in such a way as some have in the US.

Al Sharpton had a fit about Imus’ comments on U-Conn’s women’s basketball team and he rode that horse as far as it would take him. It was a news item for months. It was an dumb thing for Imus to say, but was that really one of the biggest problems facing blacks at the time. How much better would it have been had he used the same amount of energy he used to waylay a washed-up radio host to inform black home buyers of the shady lending practices some mortgage companies were using or raising awareness about the tens of thousands of Black Africans WHO ARE DYING in Darfur. (Of course, no leader in this country seems to be that interested in Darfur, so maybe we should cut Rev. Al a break there.) Still, I’m saying that he (as well as Jesse Jackson, Roy Innis, etc…) has a very big soapbox and he could prioritize the issues he presses better.

Don’t get me wrong, things like what happenned to Amadou Diallo need to be brought into the open, and Sharpton did the right thing by keeping the NYPD’s feet to the fire. I’m just saying that, if every oppressive force weighing on African Americans was magically removed overnight, people like Sharpton would be out of a job. Think about it.

  143. The Diallo trial was held in Albany while I was living there. It was a dark time.
Many chose to use the incident as a step for their soapboxes. Some kids at SUNY/Albany decided, by some bizarre logic, that the word ‘picnic’ had it’s origins in white folks lunching on sandwiches while watching themselves a lynching. Their ridiculous protests all but overshadowed the true issue of an innocent African immigrant being gunned down by pack of rabid cops.

I agree about the crisis in Darfur being underrepresented in our media. Seems few are concerned, except to make a buck.

  145. I’m not sure what I can do there, micky. It looks like you’ve won the arguement against Jersey 5 times over.

I’ll gladly state that I got your back, but that’s all I can think to do. All the worthwhile points have been made.

As blacktygrrrr said, “all they had to do was admit that republicans are human beings and they would be free to go. I suspect that a healthy plurality of the left, especially the young ones, would opt for death.”

    Great post, Tygrrrr!

Jersey, BGH: You’re a special kind of person, aren’t you?

Micky: Some people are incapable of learning. While I’m proud of you for fighting the good fight, I’d like to see your time spent arguing with people who are willing to at least consider your points. It seems you’ve won this argument several times over. It isn’t your fault if your opponents are too ignorant to realize they’ve lost.

  147. [...] a Racist. Really, she is. All jokes aside, she’s a horrible human being in every sense of the word. [...]

  148. Listen, let’s get real here. A lot of names black people have sound really freaking stupid to my half white ears. A lot of names Asian people have sound just as stupid, too. Doesn’t mean you’re racist if they are disagreeable to your ears. They don’t roll off the tongue properly nor are they fluid or pretty.

Unfortunately for them, when you hear some of these crazy names, you instantly associate them with being ghetto or low class. For example, when you add La before Keisha and La before Wanda and La before Trina, I don’t think it’s giving your child a good start. I wouldn’t go out and name my kid Bambi because…well, obvious reasons.

I know black people who desire other black people to stop the madness! But usually they’re in different economical bracket.

Just my two cents. Hey, my brother named his freaking kid something really lame ass and now my nephew is going to get his ass kicked on the playground.

    But…whatever floats your boat.

  149. Hey, white people come up with some really batshit names, too. Actor Jason Lee named his kid Pilot Inspektor. WTF? Is he even famous enough to do that? Late INXS singer Michael Hutchence named his daughter Heavenly Hiirani Tiger Lilly. Holy Playground Violence, Batman! Here’s to making our kids resent us for the rest of our lives…
