WTF Films: Once a Year
We’ve all heard the legends: If you look in the mirror on Friday the 13th (or Halloween, or any random day, really), and you repeat, “Bloody Mary” 3 times, the tortured young soul who took her life on that unfortunate date will reveal herself and creep you the fuck out (or kill you, possibly). How much stock to put into such a legend is entirely up to you.
Well, legend has it that once a year, 3 very lucky individuals have the opportunity to “party” with a fellow named Iceland Jeremiah Jeremiah Jones who sports a twink haircut and a confounding T-shirt–but only if they:
1) Go to the city park by the thick shrubs
2) Sit cross-legged in a semi-circle to wait for him to show up
-and-
3) Complete a ridiculous and difficult exercise that will put their memory and vocal articulation to the test.
Will our friends get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to “party” with IJJ Jones? Will we learn what Jones means by “party”? Will we ever know why would my friend Kris Saintsing recommend this film on his YouTube profile? The only way to find out is to watch Nathan Fielder’s brilliantly oddball short Once a Year.

wow. i’m not sure if I’m glad I watched that or pissed that I had to listen to them go back and forth like that for what seemed an eternity. I’ll have to have a few drinks and meditate on that one.

@ Stona: I don’t think there’s a whole lotta intellectual subtext into which to delve. I think it’s the absurdity of it all: the ridiculous game, never really knowing what makes an Iceland Jeremiah Jeremiah Jones party so special (although I think I know nudge-nudge), etc… How about this: get really baked and watch it. Bagel says that can make The Remains of the Day seem fucking hilarious.
@ SEO: You Pays Yer Money and You Takes Yer Chances. Still, marinate on it for a little while. I think you’ll begin to err on the side of enjoyment.
